I understand the anxiety that can be associated with standardized testing.  This year, I am offering testing via two different tests.  After receiving some feedback from families that tested with me last year, I have decided to offer both the Iowa Test for Basic Skills Form E and the Stanford Achievement Test 10. Both of these are untimed test. I prefer that, as it helps to alleviate some of the stress associated with testing. Both of these tests are listed as approved tests for Oregon and Washington state.

Group testing will be done with the Iowa test.  This test allows for more age groups to be tested together and is expected to take approximately 3 1/2 hours.  This test will be done in a single session and can be registered through this website. The Iowa test is aligned with common core.  This test covers less material but meets state requirements.  It is a great test for meeting state requirements and acquiring a good understanding of what areas your child is excelling at and where they may need more practice.  This will help you both as a parent and a teacher.  (The Iowa test - is it one of the standard tests given in several states- answers will be multiple choice - so what matters, for example, is the answer in math - not the method.  It is one of the tests that BJU offers on their site - since they provide curriculum that is not aligned with Common Core - I don't believe they would offer a test that profoundly opposes the beliefs of what they teach in their curriculum.) In order to keep testing times down, optional sections will not be tested - this still meets state requirements. I will be testing grades 3-12 for this test.

The Iowa test includes the following subjects –

  • Reading
  • Written Expression
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • Vocabulary
  • Spelling
  • Capitalization
  • Punctuation

The Stanford test takes 5-8 hours, depending on the student.  I prefer to give this test over the course of two days.  Because this is such a lengthy test, this test will be offered by private appointment only and cannot be registered through this website.  Please email me at [email protected] to make an appointment. This test is not aligned with common core and is a more thorough and complete test than some of the others that meet state requirements.  This test really does help you, the parent, to know if you are doing your job as a teacher and where you can help your child improve.

The Stanford tests includes the following subjects –

  • Word study skills
  • Reading skills/ comprehension
  • Vocabulary
  • Mathematics
  • Language
  • Spelling
  • Social studies/science
  • Listening

My credentials:

  • Certified Tester through BJU.
This qualification meets the requirements for testers for the states of Oregon and Washington.
  • Bachelor of Science in Child and Family Studies with minors in Education and Business from Portland State Univ.

In the event that a student finishes early, I will text you so you that you may come and pick them up.  The cost for the testing fee is $25 per student, for the Iowa test, payable to me via PayPal or personal check. This does not include the cost of the testing materials.  Payment does need to be received no later than 2 weeks prior to the first test date.

You will need to purchase your test materials and have them sent to me.  You will do that at  To select the proper test, you will choose the test for the grade level that your child is completing.  For example, if your child is currently in 3rd grade and will be entering the 4th grade in the fall, you would order Iowa Assessments Grade 3 (Form E, Level 9) test.   You will be asked to select your tester – please enter my zip code - 97123 under "find a tester" and you will be able to select my name.  You may find it easier to order over the phone with a BJU customer service person at 800.845.5731.  They are very helpful - just provide them with my tester id #76325497. Tests need to be ordered 4-6 weeks in advance of your test date to avoid rush fees.

Your tests will be mailed directly to me.  Be sure to enter the test date that you are signing up for.  Additionally, if asked at the time of order, your child’s full date of birth and full name will need to be entered, as well as your email address.  The registration form will ask all the questions needed for the testing form.  I will fill those things in for you in advance of the testing day to help save time and avoid mistakes.  I will ask you to review the test form on the first day of testing to confirm the information is correct.

If you would like your child to take the Stanford test, I will help you with ordering materials when you email me to request the private test.  The cost for the Stanford testing is $50 per student, as this is a private test and takes more time.  This does not include the cost of the testing materials.

At the end of the test, all materials will stay with me.  I will not be grading them.  I will be mailing off all the materials and completed tests to BJU.  I will make sure to include insurance on the package.  BJU will facilitate the scoring of the tests.  You will be receiving your child’s test scores electronically.  I will not see them.  This will be for your eyes only.  Should you have any additional questions, please feel free to email me.
